The struggle for the recognition of land rights for many communities within the Bafokeng ‘tribe’ (South Africa) goes back to the time when their ancestors were dispossessed of those rights by colonialism and apartheid. This struggle has always included: the struggle for beneficial occupation and for the use and enjoyment of the platinum-rich lands. Bafokeng Land Buyers’ Association is the mouthpiece of the affected communities and individuals.

The Association advocates for environmental justice; sustainable (mining) development; as well as equitable distribution of the economic benefits derived from the land and its minerals.
